COMMISSIONS.
In the late 18th century people
commission portraits of their prize winning farm animals. These
portraits hung in pride of place and were shown proudly to all
visitors. This practice was elevated to greater importance by
Queen Victoria when she commissioned portraits of her favorite
pets. One of these portraits is a personal favorite of mine,
a painting of EOS by Sir Edwin Landseer. (See picture below)
|
| Other artists like George Stubbs,
Maude Earle, John Emms, and A. J. Munnings have influenced me
to continue this great tradition of honoring our animals with
a classic portrait. |

I like to work primarily from
photographs which I take myself. This allows me to get a feel
for the animal's personality. But I will work with any photograph
which has enough detail to allow me to fully express the subject's
character.
The essence of my work is not
just to capture the likeness of the animal, but rather a sense
of who they are.
